To measure the health of a warehouse, there are several key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to consider. This blog will discuss the top 12 warehouse KPIs that are key to successful warehouse operations.

Order accuracy measures the percentage of orders fulfilled accurately without errors or discrepancies. It is calculated by dividing the number of orders that are successfully fulfilled by the total number of orders processed.

Inventory accuracy measures the accuracy of your inventory tracking system. It is calculated by comparing the actual and expected inventory counts, then expressing the result as a percentage.

Turnover rate measures the rate at which inventory is sold and replenished over a period of time. It is calculated by dividing the cost of goods sold by the average inventory value during the same period.

Order lead time measures the time it takes to process and fulfill an order, from when it is received until it is shipped to the customer. It is calculated by measuring the total time it takes to complete all the steps in the order fulfillment process.

Pick and pack accuracy measures the accuracy of the picking and packing process. It is calculated by dividing the number of items picked and packed precisely against the total number.

Warehouse capacity utilization measures the percentage of warehouse capacity that is being used at any given time. It is calculated by dividing the actual warehouse space used and the available warehouse space.

Carrying cost of inventory measures the cost of holding inventory over a period of time. It takes into account factors such as storage costs, obsolescence, and depreciation. It considers factors such as storage costs, obsolescence, and depreciation. It is calculated by multiplying the inventory cost by the carrying cost rate (then expressing it in percentage).

Order Fill Rate is the percentage of orders fulfilled completely without any items being backordered or out of stock.

Dock-to-Stock Cycle Time measures the time it takes for a shipment to be unloaded from a truck and stocked in the warehouse.

Perfect Order Percentage measures the percentage of orders fulfilled without errors or defects.

Cycle time measures how long it takes for a product to move through the warehouse, from when it's received to when it's shipped. It's an essential metric for measuring efficiency and identifying bottlenecks in the warehouse process. Numerous studies indicate that the picking cycle time must hit 99% to achieve accuracy and perfection.

Safety Performance tracks the measures in place to help minimize workplace injuries and other incidents that could lead to costly expenses or delays in operations

These metrics can be tracked over time to identify trends and measure the effectiveness of any changes or improvements made to the warehouse operation. Tools like dashboards or automated reports can simplify the process by providing real-time updates on these indicators. Additionally, clearly understanding goals and expectations for each KPI helps teams stay focused on reaching those targets. Businesses should also review their current processes from time to time to identify any potential issues that could be hindering performance.
